Transparency in Small Town Government? What the Heck is Going on Here?

Here are the meeting minutes from Monday night’s Special Meeting where GY city manager Fischbach, “resigned” with two weeks notice, and then went on vacation after his contract was renewed by the same GY city council only two months ago.

March 19 Special Meeting Minutes GY Website.

I’ll summarize for you.

  1. 6:05 pm Georgia convenes a Special Meeting to consider Fischbach’s performance etc.
  2. 6:10 pm they go into Executive Session (secret session) with a 6-1 vote. Gelzer voted against.
  3. 8:40 pm they come out of Executive Session and Fischbach has resigned.
  4. 9:00 pm Fischbach writes resignation email to entire city.
  5. You, the voting public gets to see nothing about what was discussed in the Executive Session
  6. Here is the response I got to my records request for information about what went on in there and why he was fired;

We all know something is/was up. We all know there is some huge problem with something between Fischbach and GYCC. It seems to me that the voting public deserves to know what is happening in our city.

How is this proper? Should everything discussed in this secret meeting be kept from the public? This is the guy who has been telling the public everything is just fine and dandy in Goodyear. This is the guy who has been telling us what a great job he and all the rest of GY’s employees have been doing during his tenure and now he leaves in a vapor cloud with NO explanation from the city? These are OUR taxes that he’s paid, they were YOUR votes that elected these council people, now the big cheese of falsehood for the past few years goes away and YOU, THE SHAREHOLDERS IN THIS ENTERPRISE ARE GIVEN NO EXPLANATION?

This does not feel like democracy to me.

419 days and counting until Goodyear residents get to take back Goodyear city council from special interest groups like union PACs, developers, and other business PACs (Georgia’s Money) and start to return Goodyear to fiscal sanity. The terms of the three “creeker” incumbents, Campbell, Gelzer, and Lord expire in 2013 as well as former GY employee Joe Pizzilo’s term.

Goodyear city council elections; May 15, 2013.

Goodyear city council primary elections; March 12, 2013.

Deadline for petitions to run for council; December, 2012.

Goodyear needs FOUR honest, intelligent, candidates to run against these government cronies in city council and mayor. Who is going to step up?
